A lovely elegant rendition of the variety, the delicately lifted bouquet shows lemon zest, green rockmelon, fresh pear and floral characters. It is focused and linear on the palate with excellent fruit purity and vibrancy, leading to a lingering crisp finish. The wine offers lovely balance and brightness.
Viticulture
Harvest is started before the grapes become too ripe to capture the fresh crisp flavours of the Pinot Gris grape. The berries are healthy and pop off the vine as the machine harvester gently picks the fruit under the watchful eye of the clear night skies.
Winemaking
After the juice is separated from the skins, it is fermented slowly in stainless steel tanks until dry. Once finished, the wine is racked off lees and left to relax until bottling.

Climate conditions high in the Awatere Valley resemble that of the hills around Veneto, Italy. There was something natural about branching out with the Italian style, Pinot Grigio. Made in the same dry and fruit driven style as found in Italy, this wine is beautiful – Bella.
This Pinot Grigio is young and fresh with orchard apple aromas and dry to taste with a lovely mineral acidity that cleanses the palate beautifully…Ciao Bella!

$21.00Late in the season it became apparent that a small amount of botrytis was developing. We decided to leave a few rows just to see what would happen. Luckily the weather played its part by bringing a little moisture followed by warm drying winds once a week. These climatic conditions were perfect for the development of Noble Rot. Once harvest arrived, every bunch was infected and had shrivelled to such a point that only the delicious nectar of concentrated grape juice was left. The harvest brix was 50!
Once the honey like juice was pressed off the skins, it was put into barrels and yeast was added. The fermentation was slow because of the extreme amount of sugar concentration. After 3 weeks of fermentation, with roughly 350+ g/l of sugar left, the barrels were racked into tank and blended with our normal Pinot Gris to help create balance. The resulting blend, with 165 g/l of residual sugar, has beautiful viscosity and texture.
AROMA: Immediately exotic, this wine is pungent and complex, offering orange marmalade, honey, spice and dried apricot aromas
PALATE: Although it is sweet, the vibrant acidity balances the sweetness perfectly and keeps it from being cloying. This is a concentrated wine with a long and lingering finish.
