A lovely dry expression, the bouquet shows fresh pear, rockmelon, floral and lemon zest characters, which lead to a juicy palate that is lively and rounded, combined with fine texture and beautifully pitched acidity. Pristine and beautifully balanced, and offers excellent drinking.

Bright, pale straw colour with a light blush, near colourless on the rim.  This has a tightly bound, refreshing and aromatic nose with fragrant white florals and white stonefruits intermingling with youthfully lifted fermentation esters, unfolding nuances of fresh herbs and hints of minerals.  Dry to taste and light-medium bodied, the palate is elegant and slender in proportion with a fine core of aromatic white stonefruits and florals, along with fermentation esters.  This has a fine, dry, phenolic backbone that lends a thirst-quenching mouthfeel, and the wine carries to a fragrant finish of florals and esters.  This is an elegant, soft and finely concentrated Pinot Grigio with aromatic florals and esters, and a mouthwatering, dry palate.  Serve with tapas and antipasto over the next 3 years.  Early-picked fruit from the Upper Awatere ‘Home’ block, fermented in stainless-steel to 11.5% alc. and 3 g/L RS.

Unusual to see a local wine labelled ‘Pinot Grigio’. This dry, crisp, light-bodied wine is certainly made in a true pinot grigio style. Bright, tangy, simple, easy-drinking café-style white. Good value at this price

Viticulture

Warm temperatures over the crucial flowering period resulted in good healthy bunches, which hung from the vines ripening over the summer months.  Careful vine management including trimming, leaf plucking and crop thinning meant the fruit was ripe, vibrant and clean on harvest day.

Winemaking

The fruit for this wine was from the cooler part of our Pinot Gris site.  This gave the juice flavours in the cooler spectrum and cool temperatures over fermentation helped retain these flavours.  The wine sat on lees for 3 months.
