This single-vineyard, Clone 5 Pinot Noir was made from grapes grown in the rugged Awatere Valley from both cane pruned and spur pruned vines. Small bunches with concentrated flavours were harvested in the cool of the night (before the rains!), fermented then aged in barrel for 9 months.
Once the grapes reached the winery they were cold soaked for 4-5 days to protect the delicate aromas and flavours in the skins. A cultured yeast strain was added to the fruit which begun the fermentation process. The skins were plunged throughout fermentation to help extract the colour and phenolics out of the skins. Once dry, and after a period of rest, the wine was pressed off the skins and pumped into barrels. Here, the wine underwent Malo-lactic fermentation to soften the acidity and then left to mature prior to bottling. We sterile filtered the wine but added no fining agent to retain some texture and body.

Gentle, fruity Awatere Valley Pinot Noir, with appealing sweetness and bright cherry, floral, violet and subtle oak flavours. A charming and approachable wineÂ
90 points /4.5 stars      Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
A beautifully balanced and delicately structured pinot, the fragrant bouquet shows spiced berry, floral and nutty aromas, leading to an elegant palate that is brightly flavoured and silky. The wine shows lovely ripe flavours and subtle savoury complexity, finishing long and finely dry.
